Depression
With help, your mood can improve, and life can feel worth living again
Feeling down or unhappy for a while is a normal part of life. Depression is when the sadness and low mood persists for a long time. It is not a mental state you can just “snap out of”. But with help, your mood can improve, and life can feel worth living again.
Depression can affect you in many ways. Typically, you might feel persistently sad, you might have stopped enjoying things you would usually enjoy, you might have lost interest in things, and you might lack energy and motivation to do things. Maybe you feel a lack of purpose or a sense of meaninglessness, and you might feel a sense of hopelessness that things can get better. You will likely also feel tired a lot of the time, and your sleep and appetite might have changed.
When you are going through a bout of depression, you will be caught in a continuous cycle of rumination and negative thoughts. Importantly, you will believe that these thoughts are inevitable and are important to deal with because you believe it is a way to resolve your problems.
In therapy, we will address the thought processes you are caught up in, and how you can deal with your thoughts differently. We will address the inertia and demotivation by reconnecting you with a sense of enjoyment and purpose.
